Libéron Pure Tung Oil provides a hard-wearing, natural finish highly resistant to water, alcohol, and food acids. Ideal for interior wood surfaces such as kitchen worktops, tables, and high-quality furniture. Its penetrating nature allows wood to age gracefully, developing a natural patina. This oil is suitable for toys and items in occasional contact with food. Also recommended for exterior oak.

Preparation

• Ensure wood surface is bare. Remove wax finishes with Libéron Wax and Polish Remover or varnish finishes with Libéron Fine Wood Stripper.
• Clean, dry, and ensure the surface is dust-free.

Application

• Ready to use. Apply with a brush or lint-free cotton cloth.
• Dilute the first one or two coats with a small amount of white spirit for easier application.
• Allow oil to penetrate for 20 to 30 minutes, then wipe off excess with a clean lint-free cloth.
• Allow 24 hours drying time between coats.
• Reduce white spirit in subsequent coats.
• Apply the last one or two coats undiluted.
• After the final coat, wait 24 hours and wipe again to aid drying.
• A minimum of 4 coats is recommended; more for porous or external surfaces.
• For best results, gently rub between coats with Libéron Ultrafine Steel Wool (grade 0000).
• Allow a few days for full drying before use.

Maintenance

• Maintain on a regular basis, applying at least once or twice a year, or more depending on exposure and usage.
• For exposed external timbers, ensure sufficient coats are applied for initial protection.

Advice and Important Information

• Oil finishes bring out the natural colours of timber. A wet surface indicates the final colour. Always test on a spare or inconspicuous area.
• Tung oil is extracted from nuts and may cause an allergic reaction.
• Store at temperatures above 5°C and always replace the lid to prevent deterioration.
• If the surface becomes sticky due to excess oil not being removed, wipe with white spirit to remove the film and allow to dry before continuing.
• Clean tools with white spirit and dispose of residues responsibly, avoiding discharge into the environment.
