Installation Guidance

For optimal occupation, site the bat box high up between 2.5m and 5m on a building or mature tree using the pre-drilled back plate hanger. Aim for an aspect that receives partial sun during the day, facing South West or South East. Positioning the box on an existing bat feeding or flight route will increase the likelihood of occupancy.

Monitoring Your Bat Box

Bats are a schedule 1 protected species. Members of the public should not disturb roosts, handle, or kill bats; only licensed bat workers may inspect bat boxes. You can monitor your bat box indirectly by looking for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box, indicating occupation, or by observing from a distance at dusk to see bats exiting for hunting.
