• •Patchouli or Patchouli is a small East Indian shrubby mint whose fragrant oil, extracted from its leaves, is used in perfumes. The plant itself reaches two or three feet in height and bears small pale pink-white flowers. The scent of patchouli is heavy and strong. It has been described as pungent, powerful, and mossy and has been used for centuries in perfume making. In a sense, it was re-discovered in the 60's and 70's by the flower children of the "hippie" generation who reintroduced the sensual pleasures of incense, with the Patchouli fragrance being particularly popular. Its properties reflected both the sensual and mystical proclivity of this movement. This is a fragrance for the woman who is free-spirited, knows her own mind, but has an expansive world view. No longer living in the 60's and 70's she has found her way gracefully to the next faze without losing the spirit of her youth.
